Arsenal in danger to lose two players in January transfer window

According to rumours, both Mohamed Elneny and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are thinking about leaving Arsenal in January.

Mohamed Elneny, an Egyptian midfielder, has only played 45 minutes in the Premier League this season, while Maitland-Niles has only started one game.

Mikel Arteta vetoed a deadline-day loan deal to Everton for Maitland-Niles, 24, who had seemed destined to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The two players may now express their intention to leave the club in the new year in quest of regular first-team playing, according to The Sun.

The Gunners, though, are desperate to retain both players, particularly Maitland-Niles, since Arteta will be without midfield support in January when Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are away at the African Cup of Nations.

Granit Xhaka’s injury, which is expected to keep him out until February at the earliest, puts the North London giants in need of extra midfield alternatives, despite Albert Sambi Lokonga’s frequent appearances since joining from Belgian side Anderlecht in the summer.
