Arsenal ‘approve’ first January deal as Edu drops hint for future transfer plans

If rumours are to be believed, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny might be on his way to Galatasaray in Turkey.

According to sources, Arsenal has decided to let midfielder Mohamed Elneny depart the club in January.

Galatasaray are dominating the battle to sign Elneny, according to Turkish source Fanatik, with the deal apparently at the “signing stage” – but no agreement has yet been reached.

The former Basel star, whose contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in less than eight months, has battled for playing time this season, appearing in only two Premier League games thus far.

A January transfer might be on the cards for Elneny, who sits behind the likes of Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the midfield pecking order. Elneny’s agent William D’Avila stated earlier this month that his client wanted to join Galatasaray.

“Galatasaray is a major club that does well both at home and abroad, and they are constantly seeking trophies,” D’Avila told Fanatik.

“I believe Elneny’s transfer to Galatasaray would be beneficial to him, particularly since he has shown an interest in joining the club. Officials from Galatasaray and I get along well.

“I meet with them once a week… I’m not sure whether Galatasaray is presently in talks with Elneny, but they should be.

“His contract expires at the end of the season, and he might join them on a free transfer in January or after the season.”

“Elneny wants to transfer to Turkey, and numerous large teams are interested in him, but it’s too early to predict where he’ll finish up.”

Galatasaray are confident of bringing the 29-year-old to the Nef Stadyumu on a free transfer in the New Year, something the Gunners have already permitted, with the likes of Willian and Mesut Ozil also going for free despite having time remaining on their contracts.

With Partey set to go for the African Cup of Nations after the holidays, technical director Edu may be looking to free up Elneny’s salary ahead of a January bid for a new midfielder.
