Arteta reveals what exactly made Liverpool defeat Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed why his team lost 4-0 to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

The North London side’s undefeated streak of ten games came to an end in Saturday’s match.

Meanwhile, a victory would have put Arsenal one point ahead of the Merseyside club on the log.

Mikel Arteta has now stated that his team lost against the Reds because they threw it away.

“We competed extremely well in the first half – they had their moments, we had our moments,” Arteta stated in his post-match news conference.

“We were really compact and utilized the ball effectively to generate some opportunities.” We had a goal disallowed, and then we gave up a set-play goal. We threw it away in the first 15 to 20 minutes of the second half, when we needed to generate some momentum and start to grow [into] the match.

“We threw every ball away in high-risk regions.” We didn’t put any pressure on [them]. They punished us, and we lost control of the game, giving them the upper hand.”

The loss demonstrated that the Gunners are still inexperienced and will need to improve in order to return to European competition, but it all starts with rebounding back in their next match.
