CHELSEA BATTLE BARCELONA FOR KARIM ADEYEMI

CHELSEA AND BARCELONA ARE REPORTEDLY AMONG THE CLUBS SET TO FIGHT FOR THE SERVICES OF KARIM ADEYEMI, A 19-YEAR-OLD GERMAN INTERNATIONAL.

According to a report by Spanish source Fichajes, the battle to recruit Red Bull Salzburg’s Karim Adeyemi is heating up. The 19-year-old German international has been linked with a number of clubs, and Chelsea is now competing with Barcelona, among others, for his signature.

Since joining Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2018, Karim Adeyemi has shown considerable improvement. Despite returning to the Red Bull Arena at the turn of the year in 2020, the player has made quite an impression since being transferred to feeder club FC Liefering for approximately 18 months. And, in the start of 2021/22, he seems to have pushed his game to the next level.

The 19-year-old has 12 goals and two assists in 17 games across all competitions, and his performances have helped him break into the German national team, with the youngster even scoring on debut against Armenia. Simultaneously, Adeyemi has sprung up on the radars of many European football heavyweights, with Chelsea and Barcelona presently on his tail.

Barcelona has had an interest in Adeyemi for some time, having failed to recruit him two years ago when he had yet to make an impression for Salzburg. Since then, the desire has only gotten greater, and Adeyemi may be a realistic target for the Blaugrana going into next summer’s transfer market.

That’s because Sergio Aguero is just a short-term answer for Barcelona, while Luuk de Jong and Martin Braithwaite don’t seem to have much of a future at the Nou Camp. So it’s easy to understand why Barcelona is interested in Adeyemi, despite the fact that they’re up against Chelsea for his signature.

Chelsea, like Barcelona, failed to sign Adeyemi in the past, with their interest in him peaking around the time he joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2018. The club’s persistent interest in the 19-year-old is unexpected, given that they already have a long-term answer in attack in Romelu Lukaku.

With Timo Werner’s future unclear at Stamford Bridge, Adeyemi may be a viable candidate to replace his fellow German international. Bayern Munich is also interested in signing the young sensation, and it remains to be known where he will end up if and when he departs Red Bull Salzburg.
