Chelsea is in pole position to sign the 23-year-old international playmaker.
The London giants are interested in signing Federico Valverde in the upcoming transfer window. However, the Uruguayan international would not even consider joining Chelsea since he is happy at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos recruited the 23-year-old midfielder from Penarol in the summer of 2016 and he was originally assigned to their B squad. In the 2018-19 season, he got his big break at Real Madrid, and the Uruguayan midfielder hasn’t looked back since, becoming a regular for both club and nation.
The South American midfielder has appeared in 114 games for Los Blancos, scoring five goals and assisting seven times. Valverde has transformed into a juggernaut of a midfielder in recent years, so it’s not surprising that numerous big-name suitors have surfaced in his pursuit.
The Blues are one such squad. The Blues are said to be looking for a midfield reinforcement, which is odd given that Loftus-Cheek has just re-established himself in the first-team system.
With both Gilmour and Gallagher expected to have bright careers at Chelsea, it’s difficult to see where a new midfielder might fit. Tuchel, though, seems to be interested in bolstering his midfield options in order to permit better rotation with Kante and Jorginho.
