Mikel Arteta refused to tie down 23-year-old Greek defender

Mikel Arteta allowed defender Konstantinos Mavropanos to depart on loan with a view to a permanent deal because of the doubts he had over the Arsenal ace’s distribution, according to a recent report from Football London.

The 23-year-old has been superb since returning to the Bundesliga side Stuttgart for a second loan stint in the summer.

The centre-half has actually scored three times in nine top-flight appearances. That return leaves Konstantinos at the top of their scoring charts thus far.

His form must have left some Gunners fans hoping that he’d receive another chance at the club when his loan spell ends but, the stage appears to be set for him to join the German outfit permanently next year.

As claimed by Football London, Stuttgart are obliged to pay just £2.5 million to keep him should the team stay up. In fact, the same report claims that he’ll leave on a permanent basis.

And Football London has now named the reason why Arteta was happy with letting him quit the Emirates Stadium outfit in the summer.

Their report notes that he had concerns about the Greece international’s ability on the ball, and more specifically, the ace’s distribution
