Not Fekir: Arteta interested in signing Real Betis anchorman in January.

According to a recent report from Fichajes, Arsenal have shown interest in 29-year-old Real Betis star William Carvalho, with manager Mikel Arteta looking for reinforcements in January.

Since signing an eye-catching deal to the Spanish club in 2018, William has failed to live up to the hype.

However, under manager Manuel Pellegrini’s guidance, the Portuguese midfielder has established himself as a key part of Los Verdiblancos.

He has appeared in seven La Liga games so far, playing an important part in the Chilean’s rotation philosophy.

In the team’s midfield, Carvalho is now battling with Guido Rodriguez, assisting the ex-Manchester City manager in rearranging his pack and keeping his players fresh amidst the grueling fixture calendar.

As they attempt to sign William in the next January transfer market, the Gunners are targeting a similar position for him.

The north Londoners clearly need quality depth in the center of the pitch, and the club is now on the lookout for midfield reinforcements this winter.

He might be a more cost-effective option who, in addition to being capable of battling with Thomas Partey in midfield, has a wealth of experience at the top level of the game.
